From a child actor, a TV
celebrity, to a host. Pallavi
Joshi has been a face that
everyone recognises easily.
Her latest performance in
the film Kashmir Files has
pushed her to further fame.
She has been widely
appreciated for pulling off
the role of the JNU professor.
She began her career as
a child artist at a young
age of 10. Her most well
received film was Dada (1979).
After she grew up, her work
was mostly limited to
Art films like Rukmati ki Haveli,
Vanchit and so on. She
later started to act in
mainstream films as a
supporting actress. One
of her major roles in the
film ‘Andha Yudh’ won her
the Filmfare award. She
made her first appearance
in the lead role with the
Malayalam film ‘Theertham’ in 1987.
With this fame she also
went on to feature as a
host of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
Maratha Lil Champs.
Her Marathi career began
with this and she acted
in films like Rita. She also
produced Marathi serials
as well. She has made
appearances in movies
like ‘The Making of a Mahatma’
by the legendary director
Shyam Benegal. Indian audience
further connected with her
through TV serials like
Alpviram, Justajoo, Talash
and the most famous Aarohan
and so many others.
Her film with Madhavan called
‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye hum’
was shelved abruptly.
But her roles in TV serials
never stopped. In 1991
she acted in the Kannada
film ‘Bhujangayyana Dashavathara’
as well. She was also nominated
as a member of Film and Television
Institute of India society, but refused
to take up the position due to the
students' protest against the
appointment of actor and
BJP member Gajendra Chauhan
as the chief of the institute's
governing council. She is
married to Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri
who has gone on to become
one of the most acclaimed
directors of today with the
release of The Kashmir Files.
Her role as the JNU professor
Radhika Menon has got her
a great response from the
people. This character has
been inspired by the JNU
professor Nivedita Menon
who has been fighting for
the cause of this issue of
the Kashmiri Pandits at JNU
and creating awareness.
