As the first notes of Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" comes through the speakers, a confident, sexy woman pulls back the curtain and seductively slinks onto the dance floor to begin her performance while many spectators stick out dollar bills for her to grab. Every time Kelly Kline steps up onto any stage in her six-inch heels, her presence as a performer and a comedic emcee introducing the contestants of the local amateur strip off contest is radiant and shines brightly around the cities of Austin and San Antonio. Kline is currently the show promoter for Oil Can Harry's in Austin and The Saint in San Antonio while maintaining her makeup artist business on the side. Kelly always gives off a sense of strength, confidence and beauty, but unless you are a part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community you would never have known Miss Kline was born a biological male, but now classifies her sex as female.

Growing up, Kline felt like an outcast in school, without many friends. A sense of confidence overcame her when she transformed into a girl with intricate makeup, eyelashes and long, blonde wigs. We wanted to pitch the story as a "new beginning" for Kline when she decided to step out into the world as a different gender and forget her past life. We wanted to follow her in her daily routines of getting ready for a night out, in front of her giant, Broadway-sized mirror reminiscent of the greats such as Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland while she discusses exactly what makes her Kelly Kline. Then, follow her into her nightlife jobs of hosting drag shows such as Drag Survivor in Austin's gay bars on 4th street, which feature over-the-top performances of iconic songs and elaborate costumes.

We want to shed light on what past events triggered the decision to switch genders, including photos of her childhood and male persona, the negative side of drag which has been painted by recent reality shows such as RuPaul's Drag Race and why drag is an art form that normally gets overlooked. Kline is ready for her close up and her brave transformation is deserving of a story!
