On May 15th, 2024 Mehr News Agency released this video stating that a US military TARS (Tethered Aerostat Radar System) crashed near the town of Rmelan in Syria. According to local sources, this happened near a US military base and during the incident US aircraft were seen flying over in the vicinity of the crash site.

Local sources stated that it started descending from the sky and crashed on the ground. However, the exact cause of the crash was not publicly disclosed. US did not comment about the incident.

Atlas News reported that "while not much is known or confirmed about the incident, footage from local Syrian sources shows what appears to be a Lockheed Martin Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS) aerostat."
