Right at the end of a 1,400 mile trip I started getting overload errors on my brake controller accompanied by the distinctive tell tale signs of an intermittent brake wiring short.

The trailer brakes would fail, then slam on and then fail again multiple times during each brake application.

I started by backing my trailer onto my pit and inspecting all the exposed wiring which was all intact.

Then I removed each wheel and brake drum one by one.

As luck would have it, the short was easily found after removing the last brake drum.

The magnet wire looped out and towards the brake drum causing it to wear every time the brakes were applied. Simple fix, but it taught me to think about moving parts that are not present when the brake drum is removed.
