Central Refund Department Scam Phone Call or Voicemail, Explained

If you received a phone call or voicemail that claimed your business can claim a refund, and it said it was from the "Central Refund Department" from perhaps 8554219722, this appears to be yet another not legit scam attempt targeting anyone and everyone, even if you don't have a business. There may be a real way for your business to receive some sort of refund or other payment in some manner, but these cold calls are likely not the way to do that. The Central Refund Department phone call or voicemail scam may have read like this: "Hi, this is Bob with Central Refund Deparment. Today is Thursday the 10th. Could you give us a call when you receive this? Phone number is 8559771975. Again, 8559771975. We still see here that your business should be entitled to retroactively claim the W-2 employees you [kept on payroll] during 2020, 2021. If you have a few minutes, we need to update you with the total refund going back to your business, as well as the [estimated] timeframe to when you would be receiving your refund check, so I look forward to speaking with you. Goodbye." Other phone numbers that mentioned a refund included 8662248755, 8554098755, and 9892449143.
