BEAT THE CLOCK with Bud Collyer [John Reed King substituting] (Aug 2, 1952)

I decided to post what I have of BEAT THE CLOCK as a companion to the TO TELL THE TRUTH episodes because they were both hosted by Bud Collyer, only to discover that the first three episodes I have feature John Reed King as substitute host!

I find these shows with King almost painful to watch (just my personal opinion), but they did have the upside of making me appreciate all the more just how good Bud was. A show like BEAT THE CLOCK can't work without just the right host. John Reed King was certainly not just the right host.

I don't have all that many episodes so I figured I'd post even these few without Bud, but I'm a bit concerned people might get turned off of the rest of the series if their first exposure is these three episodes with King as host. So please note that I'm posting all three of the King shows today, plus the first show I have with Bud, so folks can skip the King shows entirely if they want to (I wouldn't blame you). Going forward, I'll post one episode on weekend days, with TTTT episodes continuing on weekdays.

I still find some of the show a bit too silly (the whipped cream-type stunts, e.g.), but overall I've enjoyed watching the 50-or-so episodes I've recently acquired a lot more than I remember liking the series when it was first rerun on GSN years ago. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have!
