In this video I demonstrate how I light a vintage kerosene stove that is fitted with a silent burner. Always use kerosene in any stove that has a vent screw. Use of white gas (aka Coleman fuel or naphtha) in such a stove is extremely dangerous - don't do it. Always use good quality 1-K rated water-clear kerosene for heaters and stoves. One such product sold in the USA is Kleen-Strip 1-K Kerosene. https://kleanstrip.com/heating-fuels/...
NEVER use diesel fuel or other automotive fuels in these sorts of stoves.

About this stove: This is an early (circa 1916-1929) Optimus #1 "Traveler". It would have originally been fitted with a "roarer" burner. Sadly, the roarer burner that came with the stove was so degraded that it was retired to the great burner graveyard in the sky. I have fitted this stove with a silent burner. The pot support legs are reproductions I made of 304 stainless steel with brass collars to match the original (but missing) legs of tinned steel. This stove would have been housed in a leather or a tinned steel lidded box for transport as part of the packaging from the Optimus factory.
