Описание к видео Mirrored Worlds | Jaipur Literature Festival

Mirrored Worlds | David Hernández de la Fuente, Radha Chakravarty and Arunava Sinha in conversation with Navdeep Suri

With an enhanced focus on translation among publishers and a growing tribe of translators from languages, big and small, the larger literary canon is being enriched in multiple ways. With the colonial hegemony of English being diluted by a larger landscape of both classical and contemporary writers, translators David Hernández de la Fuente, Radha Chakravarty and Arunava Sinha discuss how to discover literature anew and how to read the world. In conversation with author and diplomat Navdeep Suri.

Presented by Jaipur Bookmark

David Hernández de la Fuente, a Spanish writer and professor of Classics at Complutense University of Madrid, specialises in classical mythology, literature, and philosophy. His acclaimed nonfiction works explore these fields in depth, while his novels and essays creatively bridge ancient themes with modern ideas, offering new literary perspectives.

Radha Chakravarty is a poet, critic, and translator, previously a professor at Ambedkar University Delhi. She has published over 20 books, including translations and critical studies of prominent South Asian writers. Her recent works include Subliminal: Poems and Kazi Nazrul Islam: Selected Essays.

Arunava Sinha translates classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, from Bengali and Hindi, into English. Over 90 of his translations have been published so far in India, the UK, the USA, and Australia. He teaches at Ashoka University, where he is also the co-director of the Ashoka Centre for Translation.

Navdeep Suri served as India’s Ambassador to the UAE and Egypt and High Commissioner to Australia. He writes regularly on the Middle East and foreign policy. His acclaimed translations of his grandfather Nanak Singh’s works include Hymns in Blood and A Game of Fire, as well as Khooni Vaisakhi, the ballad written after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
