Additive Manufacturing - Orthogrid with Cold Spray

An orthogrid is a type of isogrid which uses rectangular instead of triangular openings. They are used to reinforce highly loaded components which are mostly applied in the aerospace industry.
Orthogrids are cut out of one large piece of metal which causes a high loss of material. However, it is possible to additively manufacture orthogrids without wasting valuable material by using the Impact Spray Sytem. During the process, an Al alloy is sprayed onto the part in a horizontally and vertically. Thereby the grid structure is built up layer by layer which allows grid structure heights of several centimeters.
