作曲家受到每年正月十五在新加坡乌节路举办的妆艺游行的感染，于1999年创作了这首作品，作品中运用大量打击乐段落，渲染节日里喜庆热闹的气氛。2012年正值中国龙年，作曲家对原作进行了较大的调整，在编制、结构、内容上做了完善，使打击乐更丰富、更有气势，作品更显完美。在2020，作曲家再次进行修改，给予这首作品新的生命。
This composition was composed in 1999, inspired by the Chingay Parade held in Singapore during Chinese New Year season every year. The work showcases mainly the chinese percussion section, portraits a festive scene with uplifting beats. In conjunction with the year 2012 (Year of Dragon), the composer has made drastic changes in the work in order to perfect the piece. In 2020, this piece of work was updated again, a new version of "Dragon Dance" was born.
