Описание к видео Paolino Vassallo - Symphony in D minor (1894)

Paolino Vassallo (Cospicua, 1856 - Valletta, 1923)
Symphony in D minor (1894)

Movements:
1. Marcia religiosa e fuga* (0:00)
2. Scherzo (9:40)
3. Andante (13:49)
4. Finale (17:49)

Played by the National Orchestra of Malta under the direction of Christopher Muscat

* From what I could gather, the relationship between the symphony and the Marcia religiosa e fuga that is used as the first movement here is unclear. What is known for certain is that the other movements were conceived together as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. The identity of the first movement remains open to question. So far as I can see, the Marcia is the best contender for the first movement, as it uses the same (or very similar) ensemble. The key signature is perhaps an issue, but that is a tad inconsistent throughout the work, and for want of documentation it is difficult to make a definitive assessment.
