The #ijaw people of Nigeria, recognise Woyengi as the “Great Mother” and a creator deity. According to their creation stories, Woyengi observed an Earth filled with animals and vegetation but devoid of humans. She then descended to Earth on a ray of lightning, where she crafted human dolls from the Earth’s mud, neither male nor female, and breathed life into them. These dolls, representing humanity’s souls, were presented before Woyengi to select their gender, blessings, and occupations. Their choices determined their destinies, as Woyengi sent them down one of two streams, symbolising the irreversible paths of their fates, thus establishing Woyengi as the goddess of destiny ✨

This narrative is part of a broader Ijaw belief system that portrays gods and spirits with human traits and emotions
