While in previous Prius Gen models it was possible to read the voltage of the 12 volt battery in the Gen 3 models, 2010 through 2015, there seemed no way to do that. Its important to know the status of this battery as any failure will result in a car that won't start. Unfortunately Toyota didn't make this important info readily available to owners.

I recently discovered the procedure and wanted to make other Prius owners aware of how easy it is to check on your battery voltage.

When starting the car your voltage should not drop below 10.0V.
