PHILIPPINES BUILDS SHELTERED PORTS IN WEST PHILIPPINE SEA!

The 2025 General Appropriations Act includes a major development for the Kalayaan Island Group in the West Philippine Sea. Sheltered Port Projects are set to provide critical docking facilities for Filipino vessels, including those of the Philippine Navy, Coast Guard, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and local fisherfolk.

These new facilities on Lawak Island and upgrades to the existing port on Pag-Asa Island will strengthen the Philippines' presence in these contested waters. The ports will serve as safe havens during typhoons and essential hubs for maritime operations and livelihood activities.

This project reflects the Philippines' commitment to safeguarding sovereignty, supporting Filipino fisherfolk, and enhancing maritime defense capabilities.
