Kenya's Supreme Court has ruled that the gay community can register a rights organization, repealing a ban by the NGO registration board, first imposed in 2013. In the new ruling, the judges noted that "it would be unconstitutional to limit the right to associate, through denial of registration of an association, purely on the basis of the sexual orientation of the applicants." But gay sex remains illegal in Kenya, reflecting much of the popular rhetoric.
And the issue of LGBT acceptance is a fiery debate in some Christian circles across Africa. The global Anglican Church is facing a crisis, with some of its members condemning their British counterpart for approving the blessing of same-sex couples.
In a statement, the bishops from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific say they no longer recognize Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby as their leader.
DW's Julius Mugwamba reports from Uganda, whose Anglican church is also one of the signatories.
