Helpless in the war against the Legion, the Republic of San Magnolia withdrew into 85 districts and cast out all who were not Alba--silver haired and silver eyed people. Those cast out were dubbed inhuman and forced to fight the war for the Republic, given the name Eighty-Six as they lay outside the districts. As no "humans" are on the battlefield, there are no casualties. But they are not drones.
Guess I crossed over to the dark side making an anime edit, but the show contains a lot of themes shared with WWI pieces and you know I love that shit...
