🌟 1. What is Light?

Light is a form of energy that helps us see the world. It travels in a straight line and reflects from surfaces.

🌟 2. Reflection of Light

Reflection is the process in which light strikes a smooth surface and bounces back into the same medium.
Example: seeing yourself in a mirror.

🌟 3. Laws of Reflection

There are two important laws:

1️⃣ First Law

The incident ray, reflected ray, and the normal all lie in the same plane.

2️⃣ Second Law

The angle of incidence (∠i) is always equal to the angle of reflection (∠r).
∠i = ∠r

These laws apply to all types of reflecting surfaces, including curved mirrors.

🌟 4. Basic Terms Used in Reflection
👉 Incident Ray

The ray of light that falls on the mirror.

👉 Reflected Ray

The ray of light that bounces off the mirror.

👉 Point of Incidence

The point where the incident ray strikes the mirror.

👉 Normal

A line drawn at 90° to the mirror at the point of incidence.

👉 Angle of Incidence (∠i)

The angle between the incident ray and the normal.

👉 Angle of Reflection (∠r)

The angle between the reflected ray and the normal.

👉 Plane Mirror

A flat reflective surface.
It forms:

Virtual image

Erect image

Same size as object

Laterally inverted

🌟 5. Types of Reflection
1️⃣ Regular Reflection

Occurs on smooth surfaces (plane mirror).
Produces clear images.

2️⃣ Diffuse Reflection

Occurs on rough surfaces.
Light scatters in different directions.
No clear image is formed.

🌟 6. Image Formation in Plane Mirrors
Properties of Image

Virtual (cannot be obtained on screen)

Erect

Same size as object

Laterally inverted

Same distance behind mirror as object is in front

Example: Your left hand appears as right in the mirror.
