One staff member fired back, calling Thomas’ remarks nothing but “excuses,” and accused the American team of simply refusing to “accept the loss.” Amid the back-and-forth, U.S. captain Keegan Bradley stepped in and took responsibility for the defeat. The 39-year-old, who led the team for the first time in September, shut down the dispute between Thomas and the turf staff by praising the crew’s efforts. Bradley emphasized that the course conditions were excellent and insisted that Europe won because they “played so great.” He also publicly put the blame on himself, noting that his comments were made shortly before he described the team’s Ryder Cup defeat as the “darkest moment” of his life.
