The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China (259-210 BC), is located at the northern foot of Mount Li in the suburbs of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and is centered on a mound of sealed earth, surrounded by numerous burials. The Terracotta Warriors, as we know them, are located in the Terracotta Pits 1.5 km east of the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, and are burial sculptures made in the shape of soldiers and horses (chariots, war horses, soldiers).
The bronze chariot horse is a famous cultural relic unearthed from the tomb of Qin Shi Huang. When it was unearthed, the first bronze chariot horse was broken into more than 1,360 pieces, and the second bronze chariot horse was broken into more than 1,650 pieces. After eight years of hard work, the restoration of the second bronze carriage horse was completed in June 1983, and the restoration of the first bronze carriage horse was completed in April 1988. The complex production process of the carriage has taken the world's breath away and has been hailed as the "Crown of Bronze" by the academic community.
The tomb of the First Emperor of Qin had two walls inside and outside, the inner and outer walls were about 8-10 meters high, and the ruins still remain today. Underneath the sealing soil of the tomb was the underground palace, which was square in shape and all the buildings of the tomb were centered on the underground palace. The archaeology found that the underground palace covers an area of about 180,000 square meters, about 1/4 of the size of the Forbidden City in Beijing, with a depth of about 30 meters at the center. The underground palace was detected separately by remote sensing and physical prospecting methods, and was located under the mound of sealed earth. The grand-scale underground palace is located below the top platform of the sealing mound and its surroundings, 35 meters deep from the ground level, 170 meters long from east to west and 145 meters wide from north to south, with the main body and the burial chamber in a rectangular shape. The tomb chamber is located in the center of the palace and is 15 meters high, the size of a standard soccer field.
The tomb of Qin Shi Huang was built in the first year of Qin Wangzheng (247 BC) and completed in the second year of Qin Er Shi (208 BC), which took 39 years, making it the first large-scale and well-designed imperial tomb in Chinese history. According to historical records, there were various palaces built in the tomb and many exotic treasures were displayed. The tomb is surrounded by a large number of burial pits and tombs of different shapes and connotations, of which more than 400 have been identified, including the Terracotta Warriors and Horses pit, one of the Eighth Wonder of the World. The Mausoleum of the First Emperor of Qin is one of the largest, most peculiarly structured, and most enriched imperial tombs in the world.
