In October 2023 staff working in Residential special schools and colleges joined an online information session, to learn more about the National Autism Trainer Programme.

Tim Devanney from NHS England and Kate Dixon from the Department for Education discussed the need for this training, and how it aims to enhance autistic people’s experience of care through its collaborative, experience-sensitive and trauma-informed approach.

The event was chaired by Co-Lead Programme Directors Dr Ruth Moyse from AT-Autism and Dr Georgia Pavlopoulou from Anna Freud, who also took part in the Q&A panel. There was a range of presentations and videos from autistic content developers, and family members of autistic children and young people. Professionals from Residential special schools and colleges also discussed how the training will help staff to support children and young people in special educational settings.
