Two decades ago, developers at WayForward released Sigma Star Saga for the Gameboy Advance. It was a remarkable title for its time that offered a very unique mix of action RPG gameplay, and 2D shoot 'em up space shooter genres. Even though it sounds unusual on paper, in practice the genre mashup actually worked really well.

WayForward also announced that an enhanced re-release for modern platforms, titled Sigma Star Saga DX, will launch later this year in 2025.
