Maxophone is an Italian progressive band formed in Milan in 1973. The group released one single studio album in 1975 and then broke up, but still does not lose its popularity among lovers of Italian progressive music, not only in the Apennines, but throughout the world. In terms of the quality of the material performed, “Maxophone” is often rightfully placed on a par with such giants as “Premiata Forneria Marconi”, “Le Orme” and “Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso”... In their music, “Maxophone” successfully combined symphonic prog, jazz and classical , performing all compositions with the highest skill. This Italian group is often compared to Genesis, but despite the fact that they have something in common, Maxophone is quite original. Unfortunately, the English version of the album, which was supposed to reveal this wonderful group to the whole world, failed, and the musicians had no choice but to disperse. The only international success was Maxophone's participation in the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in 1976. In the early 2000s, on the wave of renewed interest in progressive rock, the band again rose from obscurity. Two versions of their only album were re-released, and in 2006 they also released the disc "From Cocoon To Butterfly", containing previously unreleased compositions from the period 1973-1975. In 2008, a Maxophone reunion took place with two members from the original lineup.
