Sometimes work takes us to new places, not just physically but mentally. Being in a new country for work offers a change of pace and a shift in perspective. Travelling for work is exciting but it also makes me wonder: How do we find the balance when the lines between work and life blur?

Let me share 6 ways to create the work-life balance as a freelancer!

1. Enjoy a slow and long morning routine.

There is nothing worse than waking up late and rushing to work, having neglected your morning rituals that set you up for a productive day. Create a morning routine that works for you and makes you feel like you are not in a rush.

2. Don't give your best energy to your work all the time.

Track your energy levels throughout the day for a week and notice when you are the most focused and productive naturally. Use that energy for something personal, like a passion project or a date with a loved one.

3. Plan activities to switch off from work

It's nice to have something to look forward to before and after work. You can book a yoga class, make a self-care appointment, go to the library to read a book, or just meet with a friend for a walk in a park. Turn off your work brain and turn on your rest brain.

4. Give yourself space and make time to process and think

Life can get overwhelming with too many things happening all at once. It is important not to live on auto-pilot and give yourself time and space to reflect on what's happening and your feelings.

5. Don't settle down for less

if you are unsatisfied with your work projects, your clients, your money, your skills, your creativity, do not settle down for it. Keep growing and pivoting until you are satisfied with what you get.

6. Embrace the imbalance

If you are working on a big project, if you are achieving a big goal, and you are working hard and there is a deadline that you are reaching, it is ok for your life to get out of balance. Just make sure to balance it out later with a vacation or a few days off.
