In this video Dr.Allison Justice, a horticulture scientist and Dr. Riley Kirk, a natural product chemist walk you though the setup for a cannabis smoking experiment.

The experiment is part of a large series of smoking experiments called the Science of Smokeability (SOS). The goal of SOS is to look at the physical and chemical components of smoking under different conditions.

In phase 1 of SOS, shown in this video, we are evaluating three different water activities on the smokeability of flower; 0.85 aW (the wettest flower), 0.65 aW, and 0.45 aW (the driest flower).

The machine is measuring pull resistance, puff volume, puff topography, temperature, and a few other variables. We are measuring the chemistry from the smoke samples including cannabinoids, terpenes and toxicants.

The other portion of phase 1 has already been completed, this included the subjective analysis of about 300 participants who smoked the 0.45 aW flower and 0.65 aW flower and gave their opinions on the smokeability via surveys. Stay tuned for the results on the chemical analysis!
