CINCINNATI (WKRC) - In a world where there are no bad ideas, one company is bringing the joy of electric scooters to cities across America, whether you want them to or not.

BIRD advertises themselves as an "electric ride-sharing company" which sounds innocuous, but the company has become infamous in the cities in which they flock to.

Besides the scooters themselves being scattered around town, effectively abandoned until someone uses them, riders of the scooters are allegedly somewhat a nuisance to drivers and walkers alike. Many cities have banned them. Residents of some cities, like San Francisco, have been known to vandalize or outright destroy the scooters.

Here's how it works: You first have to download the BIRD app on your smart phone, then you have to use the app to find one of their scooters.

According to BIRD, you have to walk up to a scooter and press the button on your phone app to "unlock" the scooter. You then stand on the scooter, give a good "two to three" pushes forward, and then press the "throttle button" on the handlebar with your right-hand thumb to accelerate. Congratulations! You then try your best to not run into anything or hurt yourself too badly.

BIRD suggests riders stick to the bike lane on roads and stay off sidewalks. You can then park the BIRD at your destination. BIRD also suggests you park the scooter near bike racks and not put the scooter in the way of foot traffic.

BIRD also offers users to become part of their CHARGER community. CHARGERs go out into their communities, find stray BIRDs and bring them home to charge them by plugging them in. BIRD pays CHARGERs for each BIRD scooter charged.

Cincinnati is a new addition to the world of BIRD scooters as they have just recently appeared on city streets. BIRD scooters have already been banned in other cities, such as San Francisco and Denver.

Indianapolis city leaders were considering a ban of the scooters, but decided against it.
