Mercedes-Benz EQS: S-Class, the next generation...

Okay, so it's not actually called the S-Class - that name is still in use by Merc's combustion-engined limousine - but the all-electric EQS is still a big Mercedes luxury flagship saloon, so it represents what the future of the S-Class probably looks like.

And just like it has done with the S-Class in the past, Mercedes has used the EQS to showcase some cutting edge new technology for the first time that'll probably filter down to the rest of the range in time. The most notable example - apart from the electric powertrain - is the optional 'Hyperscreen' infotainment display: if nothing else, you'll want to watch this video just to have a gander at that in action.

All the important numbers look good: the EQS 450+ featured packs 329bhp from a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which is fed by a colossal 107.8kWh battery, giving an impressive theoretical range of up to 453 miles.

Prices start at around £100,000, and in this CarGurus UK video review, Vicky Parrott decides whether the car can justify that rather lofty pricetag.
