[California] The United States Marine Corps built Camp Dunlap during the Second World War. The base was commissioned in 1942 and was mostly used until the end of the war. After the war, Camp Dunlap was gradually shut down until the land was given back to the State of California in 1961. The military removed all buildings and infrastructure, but left the concrete slabs in the ground. When people moved in they called it "Slab City".
