Trapped among the jagged rocks and harsh waves, a missing 8-year-old girl was found just in time.

The Clearwater Police Department (CPD) said on May 10, a young girl, who is autistic and non-verbal, had gone missing near the beach. The search was urgent since police said the child did not know how to swim.

Responding swiftly to the call, Officer Billups combed the area with determination, eventually spotting the girl in a precarious position where the rocks met the water. The officer was able to find the missing girl clinging to safety among jagged rocks in the water behind a hotel near a construction site.

Police said thanks to Officer Billups' quick-thinking and his ability to be calm under pressure, the officer was able to safely retrieve the girl from the shoreline.
