Zurich Stops Roth
Sam Zurich held off the on-rushing Mark Roth with a 209-172 title game win to claim the championship of the $100,000 Buffalo Open.
For a time, It looked as though Roth would go all the way. In the championship game he led Zurich by two pins through the sixth frame, and then Zurich made an important decision, moving to an outside line to claim the $13,000 top prize.
Roth, who had bowled well in limited Summer Tour appearances, disposed of Steve Fehr, 186-180; good friend and doubles partner Marshall Holman, 226-182; and Tom Milton, 204-182.
