Sean’s guest today is Elizabeth Samet, a professor of literature at West Point. She has a new book out, the annotated Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant.

Grant goes from being a destitute shopkeeper in his father’s leather goods store to becoming the commanding general of the union army during the Civil War, and he leads that army to victory in a brilliant campaign.
