The HD-S scale frame is based on the proven full floating weigh frame design utilizing (4) S-Type load cells that has been around for decades. We made improvements to the design and offer a 4-idler and a 2-idler version. Most importantly, we designed a static calibration system that will not sag and interfere with the weigh frame and throw off the scale accuracy which has been a problem for users of competitive equipment. We have come up with what I believe is the best design in the industry. There are (4) methods of calibrating a belt scale; a material test is the best and most accurate way, however in many cases a material test is not possible. Calibration chains have been used for a long time, however they are expensive and can be dangerous to deploy and will require LOTO. Static Weights are a great alternative to calibration chains. They are much lower in cost and (with our design) can be deployed from outside the e-stop pull cord which eliminates the need to LOTO the conveyor. This can be a huge time saver and is a much safer way to engage the static weights. Not so long ago, you could simply stop a conveyor, reach past the pull cord, and engage the static weights or chain. More and more companies are now requiring personnel to LOTO the conveyor if their work requires them to reach past the pull cords.. When we do a span calibration we like to do more than one to confirm repeatability; if we have to LOTO and engage the test weight, remove the locks and run the test and repeat the process you can see how this would take a lot of time, and if it takes time it becomes a hassle and people are inclined to not do it which will result in reduced accuracy over time.
