Community Assessment of Older Adults in York Region | Nursing Group Project 🩺

Welcome to our group presentation for Part 2 of the Collaborative Community Assessment Assignment. In this video, we focus on older adults (65+) living in York Region, Ontario—a population that continues to grow and face unique health and social challenges.
Presented by Prativa Adhikari, Salina Gautam, Shreeya Thapa, and Sanjee Doma Sherpa, this video explores why we chose this community, how we define it, and what methods we would use to assess its needs. Using tools such as needs assessments and windshield surveys, we highlight chronic illnesses, accessibility barriers, social isolation, and the importance of inclusive support systems.
We also discuss the strengths and challenges of the region, including culturally diverse communities, municipal age-friendly initiatives, and ongoing obstacles like transportation and financial limitations. Special attention is given to hearing from often overlooked voices—immigrant seniors, isolated individuals, and caregivers.
Through this presentation, we aim to promote health equity, ethical community engagement, and the critical role of nurses in leading change.
