Headlight Restoration using Toothpaste

Relax as I restore the headlights on my old car. The sales person at my neighborhood auto parts store must have seen the sticker-shock on my face when she showed me the headlight restoration kits. Thirty dollars seemed like a lot for a little bit of sand paper and rubbing compound. After taking a quick glance over her shoulder (undoubtedly checking to see if her boss was close by), she gave me a bit of advice. “Just use toothpaste” she said. “That will restore your headlights as well as any of these headlight restoration kits”.

So in this video, I’ll show you how to restore your dull, foggy plastic headlights using a dollar’s worth of toothpaste, an old toothbrush, and some rags. During the process, we’ll discuss the history of automobile headlights.

Also, to keep the lights from fogging up again, you can mask off the lens and spray with clear coat and later use some car wax on them.

Many of you like and request “chore” videos and I’m happy to make them when the chore lends itself well to being videoed. Whether this particular chore proves to be one worthy of a video will become evident soon after I make it public. We shall see.
