English in a Minute: Bag of Tricks

Welcome to English in a Minute!  

Magicians perform tricks. But what can you do with a whole bag of them? 
D: I have a date tonight. 
A: Wow! What are you going to do? 
D: I thought we’d start at a karaoke club and then go bowling. And if it’s still going well, ice skating.  
A: Wow, Dan. Should you be using up your whole bag of tricks on date number one?  
D: Well, I’m saving axe-throwing for date number two.  
A: Oh! 

A “bag of tricks” is a set of plans for getting something done or reaching a goal. For Dan, his bag of tricks is meant to impress his date. Make sure you let her win at bowling, Dan.
