Learn blues, folk and just a touch of jazz with these excellent lessons. Keb’ Mo’ is one of our great contemporary performing and recording artists, and he’s an engaging and entertaining instructor as well. You’ll get a real guitar education from these two lessons including "The Blues Guitar of Keb’ Mo’" and "Exploring the Guitar with Keb’ Mo’".
He was born Kevin Moore, but his fans know him best as Keb’ Mo’. Although he draws heavily on traditional country blues styles, he applies his formidable acoustic, electric and slide guitar skills to his contemporary folk, jazz and rock-oriented compositions.
Lesson One- The Blues Guitar of Keb' Mo":
Keb' Mo's lesson is aimed at players who want to get comfortable with the basics of traditional country blues and then go on to more contemporary blues-based tunes. Working in the key of E, Keb' shows how turnarounds and harmonized scale passages can be the basis for developing fluid phrases in a Robert Johnson style blues tune. He teaches his original tunes Perpetual Blues Machine and Angelina, both in A and employing a rhythmic alternating bass style. Keb' Mo includes some jazz-oriented chords (F7b5, G13 and E11) that add spice and interest to the songs.
For Henry, Keb' switches to his National steel guitar and discusses the basics of slide technique. This compelling, evocative piece combines many of the elements that make Keb' Mo's music so distinctive -- a solid basis in tradition along with a contemporary sensibility that brings it right up to date.
Keb' Mo' expertly accompanies his distinctively soulful songs with folk/blues fingerpicking, swampy slide licks, contemporary pop chords and a touch of jazz. The seven arrangements he teaches on this lesson are simple enough for early intermediate guitarists, but provide enough twists and turns to interest advanced musicians as well.
With his easy-going humor and deep musical knowledge, Keb' Mo' makes it a joy to play along with this lesson. You'll learn unusual chord shapes, a variety of tunings, bottleneck/slide technique, picking patterns and seven beautiful songs from his award-winning repertoire: Your Love, Life is Beautiful, I'll Be Your Water, Every Morning, Eileen, Tell Everybody I Know and a bluesy slide arrangement of America the Beautiful.

Keb's songs are accessible to most learning players. The interesting part comes when he adds his "surprise" harmonies, - unexpected chords and ear-catching progressions. His stated intention is "to inspire you by showing you things about the guitar that will help you make choices in your music based on what you feel in your heart."
