At 317 grams, sacrificing just 100 grams (3.5 oz) in additional weight over my Salomon Bonatti rain jacket, I picked up the slightly more "substantial" Fjallraven High Coast Lightweight Outdoor Jacket. The "Hydratic" 2.5-layer polyamide and polyurethane shell jacket material has microscopic holes (smaller than water droplets, but larger than steam) to wick away moisture (perspiration) to keep you dry. It can withstand the 10,000mm water column test, but at the same time achieves ventilation with the use of inventive large underarm openings and duel front zippers.

Fjallraven's website shows the High Coast Hydratic Jacket coming in four colors and six sizes. I chose the women's medium, which is large enough for me to fit over a puffy jacket. This jacket does not taper in the midsection, so if you are a smaller male, no one will notice that it's a woman's jacket...Unless they inspect the label! The jacket features a three-way drawcord adjustable hood with a reflective strip. These strips are also on the velcro sleeves. There is a hand pocket on either side and behind those are the above-mentioned ventilation zippers.

I purchased the jacket on sale for around $NT 4000 ($133 USD) at Outdoor Man, a hidden gem of a camping store, in an alley of Taichung (No 10, Alley 80, Lane 79, Section 1, Xiangshang Rd. West District, Taichung City, 403). When I was there, they had rain jackets both upstairs and downstairs. There are also some in their storeroom, so if you don't see your favorite color or size, just ask the staff!

In updates, JC and I are running the Sun-Link-Sea Half Marathon in mid-October. It will be at 2000 meters in elevation. According to the description, part of the race is within the Sun-Link-Sea park (about 20 km past Xitou). I can't wait to get out there after so many races being shut down due to COVID-19. Also, we applied for both Jade and Snow Mountain permits for November....I'll let you see how that turned out as we view the lottery results in the video. Lastly, it is becoming a tradition that we do a campfire-type song at the end of our vids! Don't be too critical....We are just having fun! Please "like" and subscribe for more gear reviews, race reports, and mountain adventures!
