"The Front Room" Music Supervisor Katy McIlvaine, founder of Dawn Patrol, shares her journey in the competitive music supervision industry. She discusses her education, the growth of the sync industry during the pandemic, and the challenges of licensing music for films. Katie highlights her work on "The Front Room," detailing the creative process and negotiations involved in selecting music.

Katy McIlvaine is a Los Angeles-based visual creative and music supervisor with over 10 years of industry experience. She Music Supervises under her company Alphabet Supe and is the owner of Dawn Patrol Music, a sync licensing catalog. Katy is currently producing and directing her first documentary short.

Her career in the entertainment industry started at mOcean where she worked on trailers. She then transitioned to TV as a Creative Coordinator for Warner Bros. Television’s music department, working on shows including "The Big Bang Theory," "The Middle," "Mike and Molly," and "Longmire." She also worked as a Music Coordinator at Format Entertainment on "Empire," Marvel's "Agent Carter," "Quantico," and 50 Cent’s "Power."

Now, Katy works as an independent Music Supervisor. Her credits include "Sister of the Groom" starring Alicia Silverstone; Trust starring Victoria Justice; and "Peace in The Valley," which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. She’s currently working on an upcoming A24 feature film called "The Front Room."

In 2020 she started Dawn Patrol Music, a catalog of independent artists, so that she could work more directly with musicians who are trying to navigate the sync world. She works with artists who are passionate about being hands-on with their careers, and most recently launched a collective of all-women music producers for custom music creation.
