IAS Rupan Bajaj Deol vs KPS Gill: India’s First S*xual Harassment Case. In 1988, IAS officer Rupan Bajaj filed India’s first ever sexual harassment case against one of the most powerful IPS officers Punjab’s "Supercop" Kanwar Pal Singh Gill. At a formal party, KPS Gill inappropriately touched Rupan Bajaj in public view, sparking a battle against deep-rooted sexism in the system.

While society and even courts initially dismissed the case as "minor," Rupan Bajaj fought for justice. Her courageous stand led to a historic Supreme Court verdict in 2005, where KPS Gill was found guilty under Section 354 IPC – Outraging the Modesty of a Woman. He was sentenced to 6 months probation and fined ₹2 lakh. This landmark case opened serious conversations around women's rights, legal reforms, and workplace harassment laws in India.
