This video series was filmed back in June of 2022, not long after the worst of the pandemic, and when the Odyssey of the Seas was less than a year old. Because of those two facts, there were a couple of things that weren’t fully up to speed with our expectations for Royal Caribbean; including but not limited too: poor quality and quantity of entertainment, what felt like a lack of staff in certain areas, and lack luster shore excursions, all of which I’ll touch on at later time.
Now that we have the negatives out of the way, let me touch on some of the initial positives of this trip. First off, I was very excited to be going on this trip with a few members of my extended family. I always enjoy traveling with them! Secondly, the ship itself was absolutely stunning, there’s no question of that. I could tell that Royal Caribbean spent a lot of time and effort designing this technologically advanced and classy vessel. Thirdly, this itinerary was incredible. Though Rome is quite far away from Civitavecchia (the city where all cruises calling on Rome dock), the embarkation process was smooth and efficient. Having Rome as a home port rather than a port of call allows for more time to explore that incredible city. The ports of call were all incredible too. Our itinerary was as follows: day one was spent boarding the ship in Rome, day two was a day at sea working our way over to Greece, on day three we called on Santorini, Greece, day four was Kuşadası, Turkey, day five was Mykonos, Greece, day six was our second sea making our way back to Western Italy, and finally for day seven, we called in Naples, Italy.
To give an initial synopsis, the hard product (the ship itself) was gorgeous and had many attractions to keep you entertained and the itinerary was one of the best I’ve ever been on, while the soft product (entertainment, food, and service) was really so-so.
