Harper’s Creek Shelter (mi. 837.6) to Humpback Rocks picnic area (mi. 851.2) Wow wee what a day. Started the day very wet, soggy, and grumpy with a 4 mile hike straight up, then up and down the next 4 to get to Reid’s Gap parking lot. We knew from there it was only 5 miles to a brew pub called Devil’s Backbone, but didn’t really want to walk there. After 2 or 3, or maybe 20 failed attempts at getting a hitch 😐 … a lady by the trail name of Peanuts picked up Pilgrim and I. She hiked the trail in the 90s and she drove us to the pub. We had a great meal there (see below) and kept ordering things so they wouldn’t kick us out because a rain storm had come in and we were charging stuff and uploading videos. After the rain passed we paid our bill and took off walking back up the road to a convenience store that we had passed on the way. Shortly after starting our walk, a car pulled up with two guys we had been hiking with, Bling and Boots with the fur. They were with a different woman, but she was the sister of the woman who had picked us up earlier, she said she didn’t have room for us, but that she would call her sister and tell her to come get us …. again 😂 Peanuts showed up about three minutes later and was kind enough to take us to the convenience store, and then back to the trailhead. We were super appreciative and they wouldn’t take money or anything. We hiked another 5-6 miles then called it for the day as soon as we found the picnic area … running water with a bathroom and soap dispenser were the selling points. I didn’t get the 17 miles I was hoping for, but will make it up another day.

Todays menu: Iced honey bun, half a bag of Knorr’s Spanish rice, double bacon cheeseburger, order of fries, a side salad, bowl of coleslaw, draft beer, 3 fountain sprites, cookie/brownie sundae with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and caramel.
