Hey guys, in this video I go over one of the most important aspects of your overall fighting strategy: Footwork.

Proper footwork is very important in boxing because it will allow you to control your opponent and also control the pace of the fight.

There are couple of ways I like to move in the boxing ring:

1. Forward (Lead with the jab and push yourself off the backfoot to move forward. Take small steps and keep your balance. Forward movement is something I use when I'm trying to set up an attack.)
2. Backward (Step back with the jab and push yourself off the front foot to move backward. Take small steps and keep your balance. Backward movement is something I use when I'm trying to control the range or defend myself.)
3. Side to Side (Lead with the jab and take small steps forward until you're in range. To get to your right, push yourself off your front foot to get to his side.
To get to your left, push yourself off your back foot to get to his side. Side to side movement is very similar to a side shuffle. Side to side movement is something I use when I'm trying to gain an angle on my opponent that allows me to hit without getting hit.)
4. Sidestep - Pivot (Move backward with the jab and as you're getting close to the ropes, take a sidestep with your lead foot and pivot with your back foot. Repeat until you're away from the ropes and closer to the center of the ring. Keep a high guard while you're moving. The sidestep - pivot is something you'll do when you're fighting backward in order to avoid being caught with your back against the ropes.)
5. Circular movement (This is something that you'll do after an exchange as active recovery or whenever you're getting tired and want to rest. Start the circular movement clockwise and move like that until he cuts off the ring or you start to get a bit dizzy. Switch to circular movement anticlockwise. Switch direction again when he cuts the ring. Road work comes very handy with circular movement and with that in mind, make strength and conditioning an integral part of your development as a boxer. Being fit is super important for a boxer. Your skillset won't really matter if you're getting tired in the boxing ring. And like Ali used to say: "The boxing ring is the wrong place to get tired.") :)))
6. Side to side stationary foot work (this is something I use to lure my opponent in and hopefully catch him with something like a two or a three.)
7. Back and forth stationary footwork (again this is something I use to lure my opponent in and hopefully catch him with a left hook.)

There are other ways of moving in the ring but for now this is enough to get you going.
