Diary of a Bad Year by J.M Coetzee (Book Review)

Diary of a Bad Year is a thought-provoking book by J. M. Coetzee. Originally, I was just about to give up reading this because it was written in a different way that made you think about HOW you were going to read the book.

It's quite genius when you see how it's written and the blending of genres. I would say it's a bit "meta". It's the story behind a story of a man who is writing a collection of essays and then the various viewpoints and perspectives of the other two people in his life at the same time: Anya, the woman who is helping him type and edit the essays and her boyfriend Alan.

I would say that this is already one of the best books I have read this year and so glad I stuck with it. It's definitely something that makes you think and also, maybe, glean some insight into how J.M.Coetzee thinks (that's assuming that the character in this book is an extension of him). It's unclear what is fictional and what is not and that is why I liked this book. It makes us think long afterwards.
