What do Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Megan Fox, Sandra Bullock, and Chloe Grace Moretz have in common? They've all used the phrase "comme ci, comme ça" when giving interviews to French-speaking journalists.
But do the French really say "comme ci, comme ça"? Nope. The evidence is pretty clear.
So how useful are the phrases we learn in traditional language classes once we take them to the real world? That's a legitimate question.
Luckily, there are much better alternatives to the phrase "comme ci, comme ça" that are actually used by native speakers in standard, conversational French. Now all we need to do is make sure students of French around the world are taught authentic linguistic skills :)
