Sometimes you just want something crunchy, sweet, and totally your own. I took the classic Korean sweet potato candy, mattang, and gave it a crispy upgrade by thinly slicing, rolling, and deep frying it. Honestly, this crunchy version has totally won me over—it’s now the only way I want to enjoy mattang🔥

To make it even better, I paired it with an injeolmi latte topped with creamy, nutty roasted soybean cream. Perfect cozy afternoon vibes while binge-watching my favorite show 📺✨

🍠Rolled Sweet Potato Mattang (Korean Candied Sweet Potatoes)

Ingredients
2 small Korean sweet potatoes
3 tbsp cooking oil (for caramel sauce)
3 tbsp sugar
Black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Oil for deep frying

Instructions
1. Using a slicer, thinly slice the sweet potatoes lengthwise into long strips. Carefully roll each strip into a tight spiral.
2. Skewer 3-4 rolled sweet potato spirals onto each skewer (adjust based on your skewer length).
3. Heat oil in a deep pan. Deep fry the skewered rolls until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and carefully slide the rolls off the skewers.
4. In a separate pan, heat 3 tbsp cooking oil and 3 tbsp sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar caramelizes and the mixture turns golden and syrupy.
5. Toss the fried sweet potato rolls in the caramel sauce until evenly coated.
6. Spread the coated sweet potatoes on a flat sheet or tray. Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top. Let cool until the caramel sets and becomes extra crunchy.

☕️Injeolmi Latte

Ingredients:
Ice cubes
Milk
1-2 shot espresso
5 tbsp heavy cream
1/2 tbsp honey (or syrup/sugar)
1 tbsp roasted soybean powder (콩가루)
Extra roasted soybean powder for dusting

Instructions:
1. Whip heavy cream, honey, and soybean powder together until smooth.
2. Fill glass with ice, add milk and espresso.
3. Top with injeolmi cream and dust with extra soybean powder.
