The place was named “Liloan” from the local word “Lilo”, a dialect term for whirlpool. Whirlpools can be seen at Wawa strait or under the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge that connects the main island of Leyte south and Panaon Island. Liloan is located at the northern part of the latter.
