A £150-a-night 16th-century manor, the Madeley Court Hotel in Telford, Shropshire, has been revealed as housing asylum seekers for the past three years.

The luxurious accommodation has sparked backlash, with some far-right activists storming the venue in protest. Critics on social media expressed anger at the Home Office spending on the hotel while pensioners face cuts to their winter fuel allowance.

The hotel has housed migrants since 2021, initially accommodating Afghan refugees after the Taliban takeover. Most residents are now believed to be from Iraq, following efforts to integrate 325 Afghans into the local community.
