Dhanu Sankranti: 'Pahili Bhoga Niti' Observed In Puri's Jagannath Temple

Today is Dhanu Sankranti, and the Pahili Bhog rituals have commenced for Mahaprabhu (Lord Jagannath) at the Jagannath Temple. This special bhog (offering) is prepared in a dedicated kitchen. The Gopala Ballav puja is also performed along with the Pahili Bhog. Devotees will have the opportunity for early darshan (viewing) of the deities and to receive Mahaprasad (sacred food). The Diwa Pahuda rituals will be held in the afternoon. On regular days, the temple rituals involve the Rosha Homa (fire sacrifice) after the deities' adornment, and the kitchen fire is lit to prepare the bhog. However, during the Pahili Bhog month, the Rosha Homa is performed after the Mangal Aarti (morning prayers).
