Stimulus News:
Senator Josh Hawley new stimulus bill
-Direct stimulus checks only
-Will get $1200 checks to those who make up to $75,000 a year
-He says he will not vote on any bill that doesn’t include checks
-This is currently being compared to two proposals around $900 billion

Division among Republicans with stimulus
-Many republicans do not like Mnuchin’s latest $916 billion dollar proposal
-The general argument among those against the new proposal is that if money is going out it should be focused on those who don’t have jobs first

McConnell trying to make a proposal that has a little disagreement as possible on the floor
-He suggested going with only the most agreed on issues
-Dropping liability protections and state and local government funding
-Pass what we can pass now and worry about the rest later

The current areas that have the most agreement are:
-There should be some kind of unemployment extension
-School funding
-Funding for testing and tracing
-More small business funding
-And rent moratorium extensions

Some economists are warning against excluding state aid from a relief bill
-They say giving funding to state governments is a proven solution
-This is because the economists believe that individuals states will be better at deciding what exactly they need instead of sweeping funding from the federal government
-Many states are expected to cut spending from 5 to 20 percent because of lower tax revenues
A report from the Congressional Budget Office showed that for every dollar spend on small business stimulus 36 cents went back into the economy and for every dollar spend on state aid 88 cents went back into the economy
-The major concern is that states will have to lay off essential workers like teachers, paramedics, and firefighters

Jobless claims jump up more than 100,000 compared to the week before to 853,000
