The Chinese Civil War (final phase, 1945–1949)

Here I will talk about the final phase of the Chinese Civil War (which was fought between the government of the Republic of China, controlled by the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China ). This phase began immediately after the end of World War II, and it lasted until the defeat of the Kuomintang forces, and the proclamation of the Chinese People's Republic in 1949. The Chinese communists were led by Mao Zedong while the Kuomintang forces were led by Chiang Kai-shek. First, the Kuomintang forces were victorious, seizing the communist’s capital of Yan'an, but after being defeat in Liaoshen, Huaihai and Pingjin campaigns, their force was reduced a lot. The Kuomintang's capital, Nanjing fell on 23 April 1949. After Mao Zedong officially proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China at Tiananmen Square on October 1, 1949, Chiang Kai-shek and his troops retreated to the island of Taiwan.
