By the end of vanilla WoW many players, myself included, had discovered the absolute deity-like power that Mages had in the realms of AoE. It wasn’t just about the raw AoE damage that Mages were king of though. Talents like Improved Blizzard, Improved Frost Nova, and Permafrost ensured that players could lock down and control an infinite amount of mobs, and dispatch them with ease. You might claim that me saying infinite is a bit outlandish, but, no, seriously, it’s not. If the mobs are melee there is no limit to how many of them you can take on. Clearing islands of Murlocs, doable. Step it up further to the ZF graveyard, easy. The Zul Gurub one pull, even bots can do it. And of course, the king of pulls, the Mara 1 pull which shows just how insane Mage potential is. I have to be honest, as a gamer, a Mage, and an aspiring game designer, executing the Mara 1 pull is an awesome experience. It’s the epitome of players beating the designers, which is pretty much the peak of fun for both sides.
